Mud Crab Traceability

CrabTrace is an innovative traceability system for individual mud crabs, capturing event-level data from harvest to market. Integrated with government compliance systems, it streamlines workflows, ensures data integrity, and connects regulators, fishers, and supply chain stakeholders through a secure, standards-based platform that enhances both compliance and marketing outcomes.
This pioneering research initiative is being led by the Food Innovation team at the Queensland Department of Primary Industries (QDPI), in partnership with the UTSCybeR team at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC).
CrabTrace is Australia’s first seafood traceability system fully integrated with a government fisheries reporting framework, capturing fisher-specific data directly from existing Fisheries Queensland systems. This seamless integration is a key differentiator—eliminating dual data entry and lowering adoption barriers for fishers.
